Selling APIs across borders is a compliance nightmare.

If you sell to customers in the EU, UK, Australia, Canada, or India, you're supposed to register for VAT/GST, calculate the right rate, file returns, and handle invoicing in every jurisdiction. Most API founders ignore this until it becomes a legal problem.

VAT in 27 EU States

Each country has different rates. You're supposed to collect, report, and remit in each one.

Compliant Invoicing

Invoices must include tax registration numbers, correct rates, and local formatting.

Liability Risk

Getting it wrong means fines, back-taxes, and potential account freezes.

With Paddle as Merchant of Record, none of this is your problem.

Common questions

What does "Merchant of Record" mean?

When Paddle is the Merchant of Record, they become the legal seller of your product. They issue invoices to your customers, collect the correct local VAT/GST, file tax returns, and pay you the net amount. You never register for foreign tax IDs or deal with compliance paperwork.

How does usage-based billing work with Paddle?

Nadles meters every API call at the gateway and calculates the bill based on your pricing model. At the end of each billing cycle, Nadles sends the usage totals to Paddle, which invoices your customer (with correct tax) and pays you the net amount. You configure the metering model in the Nadles dashboard.

Can I switch between Paddle and Stripe?

Yes. Nadles abstracts the payment layer. You can start with Stripe and migrate to Paddle when you need Merchant of Record, or run both in parallel for different customer segments. No billing code to rewrite.

Do I need a Paddle account already?

You'll need an approved Paddle account. You can sign up at paddle.com — approval typically takes a few days. Once approved, connect it to Nadles in one click.

Is this only for EU companies?

No. Paddle's MoR model benefits any company selling to international customers. Whether you're based in the US, UK, or Singapore, Paddle handles local tax compliance for sales in 200+ countries.
